Our Commitment to Sustainability
At Oxygen Resort, we believe in harmonizing comfort with responsibility. Our commitment to sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations, reflecting our dedication to preserving the beauty of Suriname and contributing to a healthier planet. Ever since 2023, these are some key initiatives that make Oxygen Resort an environmentally conscious leader in hospitality:
Recycling Projects:
We take pride in recycling all types of plastic and aluminum used within our premises. By implementing effective recycling systems, we aim to reduce our ecological footprint and promote a circular economy.
Botanical Garden:
Step into our enchanting botanical garden, where lush greenery thrives. Our commitment to biodiversity is evident in the variety of plants that not only beautify our surroundings but also contribute to the overall well-being of our environment.
Souvenir Shop:
Our souvenir shop proudly features products crafted by our talented employees, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of Suriname. Supporting local artisans is not just a choice; it’s an integral part of our commitment to the community.
Digitalized Information within QR Code:
In our efforts to minimize paper use, every apartment at Oxygen Resort is equipped with a QR code. This code gives guests access to a digital guest directory, reducing the need for traditional printed materials and promoting a more sustainable approach to hospitality.
Mindful Material Use:
We pay attention to the details, even in our choice of cleaning materials. From using microfibers to reusing sponges, we strive to make eco-friendly choices that align with our commitment to sustainability.
***Update: 2024***
Water Harvesting:
Oxygen Resort is aware that the climate is changing. The gardens of the resort are a ‘benchmark’ of the resort, which is why we have invested in rainwater harvesting, so that our plants can be watered in a sustainable way. Please note: this water is not drinkable and is not connected to the resort’s water supply network. Through small electric submersible pumps, the water is pumped to a sprinkler system (which still needs to be installed), allowing the gardens to be watered. The swimming pool will also be refilled from these water tanks.
Shampoo-Conditioner and Bodywash:
All bathrooms in the apartments are equipped with two refillable bottles for shampoo-conditioner and body wash. This way, Oxygen Resort makes a significant contribution to reducing plastic waste.
Solar Energy:
At Oxygen Riverside, in Waterland, a pilot project was carried out to connect the location to a backup solar power network. All electrical supply points, including lighting, with the exception of air conditioning units and boilers, are connected to this backup network.
The plan is to implement the same system at Oxygen Resort in 2025, with the laundry rooms being connected to such a backup network.
Drinking Water Treatment:
In two of the laundry rooms, a water treatment system has recently been installed for the distribution of drinking water. This initiative is part of the ‘Join the Pipe’ project, which aims to make drinking water more accessible in certain areas of Africa.
Garden Waste Management:
A wood mulcher is in place to process garden waste into finer plant material. Oxygen Resort has a large and diverse garden, where the finer plant material is put to good use.
Future-Forward Initiatives:
Stay tuned for our upcoming initiatives, including the introduction of dispensers in all rooms for shampoo-conditioner, and soap, rainwater harvesting for our garden, and electricity-saving operations. These additions underscore our dedication to evolving and adopting practices that are gentle on our planet.
